Remember Rich Wilde, Play’n GO’s most popular slots character? Well, he’s embarked on a new adventure called Tome of Madness. He’ll take you to a fictional place called Cthulhu Mythos, through a magical portal, where you will find grand treasures.

Features

The first thing you need to know is that you will get not one, two but three Wilds in the slot. The Book is your regular Wild which substitutes for all regular symbols. The Rich Wilde x2 Multiplier Wild is the second one, while the third one is the Octopus Mega Wild which can only appear during the bonus round.

The second thing you need to be aware of is that there are special positions on the reels, Eye Marks, which can appear at random. If you manage to land a winning combo on these positions, you will get 2 Special Wilds on the next non-winning spin.

Now, let’s get to the most interesting feature. There is a Portal Meter which you need to fill in order to get Modifiers on the reels in addition to other special features. You’re filling the Meter with symbols that participated in the winning combo. For 7 symbols you get 2 Special Wilds. For 14 symbols you get 2 Special Wilds but in case one of the symbols in the winning combo was a Special Wild, you activate the Abyss Portal Effect feature. For 27 symbols you get 2 Special Wild, and if a Special Wild was part of the winning combo, you get access to the Void Portal Effect. And finally, for 42 symbols, you will trigger the Other World Free Round feature.

The Abyss Portal Effect feature removes a row or a column and adds the removed symbols from that row/column to the meter, while the Void Portal Effect chooses at random one symbol and clears all instances of that symbol from the reels.

The Other World Free Round, gives you 3 random Portal Effects in 1 Free Spin. If you over-charge the Portal Meter at this point you will get one extra Portal Effect for every 3 winning combos. You can get up to 7 Portal Effects. Now, when you form no win after a cascade, you get 4 Special Wilds or the Abyss or Void Portal Effects accompanied with 4 Special Wilds.

During the Free Spins, however, you benefit from the Mega Wild. This is when eleven or twelve positions are Eye Marked, and if you open all of the eyes, the Mega Wild Cthulhu symbol appears helping you create huge wins. You open the eyes by forming wins on all Eye Mark positions.

Theme & Design

Play’n GO made a great move including Rich Wilde in its new release. We love this character and we always want to follow him on his adventures. Now, the slot was inspired by H.P Lovecraft’s fictional creature Cthulhu, and its universe. When you load the game, you are taken to a dark abandoned hall where Wilde holds the Book of Madness and stands still on the right of the reels.

On the reels, you see the purple, red, blue and green low-value stones with ancient writings on them, and the high-value rings, octopus pendants, Cthulhu skulls and daggers. The highest-paying of them all is the octopus giving you 100x the stake. The Eye Mark is a remarkable detail added to the slot.

Wagering & Paylines

Tome of Madness uses cluster-pays mechanics and a betting range that goes from $0.10 up to $100.00 per spin. The RTP is 96.59%, and the game is a highly volatile one.

The highest-paying symbol gives you 100x the stake, should you make a cluster with 10 of its symbols. This means that it can deliver $10,000.00. However, the game promises a maximum payout of 2,000x the stake, meaning you can pocket $200,000.00 if everything goes well. This makes the game even more attractive and worth the try.

Verdict

Tome of Madness is an exquisite slot, one of the most refreshing ones that came out of Play’n GO’s studio lately. We have our favourite character Rich Wilde taking us on an adventure to a fictional world, where we see all kinds of creatures and scary eyes looking at us. We have a terrific payout potential, 2,000x the stake, and feature-packed gameplay to keep us engaged for quite some time. What else to ask for?
